Seaward Travel: A Family Legacy of Excellence in Coach Services

Founded in 2003, Seaward Travel has been proudly transporting passengers across Europe, delivering exceptional service to destinations in all four corners of the continent.

The “Seaward” name in the bus and coach industry dates back to Mervyn Seaward, who began his career driving a Routemaster on London’s route 92, connecting Wembley Stadium to Ealing Hospital. For 30 years, Mervyn was a familiar face on the London bus network, establishing a reputation for reliability and professionalism.

Seaward Travel was established by Mervyn’s son, Phillip Seaward, who followed in his father’s footsteps. Phillip’s passion for the transport industry started in childhood, accompanying Mervyn on bus routes and dreaming of one day earning his own coach license. In 2003, that dream became a reality when Phillip founded Seaward Travel, starting with just one coach and a single home-to-school route. Today, the company has grown into a thriving business with a fleet of 20 vehicles.

Before launching Seaward Travel, Phillip gained extensive experience working for two coach companies as a driver and later as operations manager for a major coach firm in London. During this time, he also earned his operator’s license, which enabled him to start his own business.

Continuing the family tradition, Phillip’s son, Darren Seaward, developed the same ambition to enter the coach industry from a young age. Darren grew up around Seaward Travel, helping at the depot, cleaning coaches, and enjoying the camaraderie of the drivers. At the age of 18, Darren earned his PCV license with First Bus in Weymouth.

During the challenging 2021/22 pandemic lockdown, Seaward Travel’s London depot paused operations as the world waited for normalcy to return. During this period, Phillip and Darren decided to expand their business by opening a coach depot in Dorset. Today, Seaward Travel operates seven vehicles from its Dorset base, providing a range of services, from home-to-school transport to European tours.

Without their support, help and permission to store skis and boots on the coach, we would have had a very different experience.
